Artiest' Column

Those who entertained and benefited out of the royal regime are also getting around the Loktrantik government again to get the share. Some film artists and producers used to protest the Janaandolan II saying that film sector should not be involved in politics. Interestingly, they have now changed the color and become 'hardliner Loktrantrik', revolutionary and even republican.

The country is heading towards the new and fresh direction. Almost all aspect of society along with politics is gradually getting a new touch. Unfortunately film sector is still bound to be in the same traditional monotony without any hesitation. Those who have made the film having the base on traditional and exported culture, which have blatantly imitated from the foreign films and have created shame in the fair name of making films, have been felicitated by the Loktrantrik leaders.

For this group, the film sector toward forward doesn't have to get the fresh and forward looking approach. Such people have less time to spare to talk and think about the realistic, and people centered films, bear no time for the transformation of this sector. But they have enough time to knock the door of the political leadership to lengthen their tenure taking the flags of the respective political party and pretending as the mechanical zealots.

But the sad irony is at least the revolutionary parties, who claim as so have not made a note that those in film sector change the color with the change in politics not trustworthy at all. Transparent Loktrantik system should dare to punish those who took the benefit misusing the position and privilege.

But Loktrantik government is less serious toward the film sector. When Media Commission was formed, there was not even a single representation from the film sector. Not only that, even in the Academy Draft Committee the necessary of the film sector was not felt. Neither the film sector was given the status of academic business, nor the industry. Present government is rather prospering those who were involved at the time of the royal atrocity. Policies have been made recklessly and government is showing it's apathy to resolve the problems prevalent in this sector.

One recent interesting but funny development is: the metropolis security system which has just been formed has asked for the licensing and censorship for the film. At the time when the country is filled with the republican voice, all the censorship imposed on the film sector should have been freed, but we have another irony.

The supposed statistics express the approximate fact that if only 2 percentage Nepalese go to the cinema hall, the film would be successful. If this figure could be increased up to 20 percentages, it would be a grand success in this sector and the investment would be reached up to 20 million.

The rate of outgoing Nepali youths is increasing day by day which has negatively hit the film industry as it is loosing its audiences. To repair this loss, Nepali film industry has to extend its market to the international arena. Gulf countries, India, Hong Kong etc. could be the main target areas for this. If done so, the investment could be easily got back only from the international market.

The advertisements in the Nepali media where there is a role of foreign artists have Nepali dubbed voice. Why can't the Nepali artists play in such ads? In the same case, Pakistan, Bangladesh and the like have their rule that the artists of the respective country should get the chance to play. In such cases, Film Development Board should deliver its concern.

It's already been about half a year that Loktrantrik- government- appointed filmmakers have taken the responsibility who had, at the time of appointment said that there will be difference within 3 months. But what changes have occurred in this sector? The main agenda should be, there has to be a representation on behalf of the film sector as well in the election of the constituent assembly. For this the unity among the organizations who were born for the sake of Loktrantra is a must. The time is ripe now.
